A good ketchup doesn’t have to be complicated, but it’s nice if it offers a little more than just sweetness and tomato flavour. Stonewall Kitchen’s Country Ketchup does exactly that: a classic, tomato-based flavour complemented by the mild sweetness of onion and a subtle kick from red chilli flakes. This keeps the ketchup recognisable, yet just that little bit more interesting than a standard bottle off the shelf.

Thanks to the pieces of ripe tomato and the use of natural ingredients, the country ketchup retains a surprisingly fresh flavour. Instead of a smooth, heavily processed mixture, you can still really taste the tomato here, complemented by the mild sharpness of onion and a hint of chilli in the background. The combination of fruitiness and a hint of heat makes it ideal with burgers, chips and grilled dishes, but also with roast potatoes or as a base for sandwiches and fast-food-style dishes.

Use the ketchup as you normally would – simply with a sandwich, chips or a burger – but expect a little more depth of flavour than with standard ketchup. This ketchup also works well as a base for a cocktail sauce, BBQ glaze or dressing, thanks to its combination of sweet, tomatoey and slightly spicy flavours.

Stonewall Kitchen is renowned for its high-quality, artisanal specialities from Maine (USA), and this country ketchup is a fine example of this: a familiar classic with a sophisticated twist. Rather than being a purely functional product, the emphasis is on flavour and the quality of the ingredients, which gives the ketchup that little bit of extra character.

So, with this bottle, you’ll have a ketchup at home that goes just as well with a simple lunch as it does with a proper barbecue, without having to compromise on the familiar, recognisable flavour of ordinary ketchup.
