Why buy an original Japanese konro grill?

Quite simply. The real konro grill is exclusive and comes from Japan! In this country, the original konro grill is made, following centuries-old manufacturing processes. You also come across the konro under the name hibachi. Do you want the original? the real one? Then choose “Made in Japan” because only then will you have the best all-round quality on your table.

The history of the Japanese grill

The Japanese table grill was obviously developed in Japan in the 18th century. At first, the grates of this grill were used as heating devices. Later, people discovered that the grates could not only serve as heaters but were also ideal for preparing Yakitori and other food.

The original Japanese grill is always made of diatomaceous earth. This material can withstand extreme heat and holds that heat extremely well. When you use this Japanese grill, the meat is placed just a few centimetres above the charcoal. As a result, the juice of the meat drips down to the grill and evaporates incredibly quickly. This vapour then soaks into the meat, giving it a delicious (smoky) flavour.

The Japanese grill is not only suitable for yakitori, you can also use it to prepare other types of meat, fish or vegetables. This grill gives all your meat or fish a delicious grill flavour. In this grill, only the world's most special type of charcoal is used: Binchotan charcoal.

Using Binchotan charcoal

When you start using the Japanese grill, you need a special type of charcoal: Binchotan charcoal. This charcoal is made from a special Japanese oak, the Ubame oak. This charcoal is only produced in the south-west of Japan. By locals here, the charcoal is made by hand in large clay kilns. Then, using kilns, they draw the moisture out of the wood very slowly. This process takes 14 days. This makes the charcoal extremely hard and therefore you can grill much longer with this hard charcoal than with any other charcoal. Because of this process, real Japanese Binchotan is very expensive and exclusive. It is almost impossible to get hold of even. That is why we sell various alternatives from Thailand or Indonesia.
